Tom Phillips - A Humument (1966-73)
“In 1966 Phillips set himself a task: to find a second-hand book for threepence and alter every page by painting, collage and cut-up techniques to create an entirely new version. He found his threepenny novel in a junkshop on Peckham Rye, South London. This was an 1892 Victorian obscurity titled A Human Document by W.H Mallock and he titled his altered book A Humument.
The first version of all 367 treated pages was published in 1973 since when there have been four revised editions. A Humument is now one of the best known and loved of all 20th Century artist’s books and is regarded as a seminal classic of postmodern art.”
David Hockney ‘Joiners’
During the 1980’s, David Hockney began taking photographs from multiple viewpoints then piecing them together. He was interested in how we see and depict space and time and how we turn a 3 dimensional world into a 2 dimensional image.

Veruca Salt: Seether video shoot
love the video, soooooo 90’s!
In 1908, Stanislavski conceived show on Moscow Art Theater impossible: the souls of men, the gods of the other world, animated objects, and the kingdom of the future. So there was a legendary performance of “Blue Bird” (the drama extravaganza Symbolist Maeterlinck), which was literally packed with awesome stunts. One of the heroes broke off their fingers, and they grew again, under cover of night dancing plates, came to life milk, bread, fire, water. Special attention is paid to the director and costume makeup, which plays an important role in the creation of fabulous images. Due to the unique vintage photo greeting we have the opportunity to see how it looked.
Holy smokes, has it really been 20 years since the “Hateball” tour with Peter Bagge & Dan Clowes? Our old pal Devlin Thompson of Bizarro Wuxtry in Athens, GA shares memories and photos of their stop there.
